when something is captured.
An image is not only content. It is a record connected to a real body, a real person and a real moment.
Capture Research Lab is an early-stage, independent research project focused on adults and adult-designed digital systems. We study what happens when images and recordings move beyond their original context: when they are stored, shared, monetised, copied, altered by AI or used without consent.
Our central question is whether prevention can move earlier - closer to the point of capture - rather than relying only on reporting, moderation or punishment after harm has spread.
Our position
We are not anti-technology, anti-camera or anti-sex. We are interested in responsibility by design: practical safeguards that protect consent, dignity, privacy and autonomy without moral panic.

We are developing applied research into how adults find and use digital safety information, reporting, removal and appeal pathways.
The work follows the route from a person’s point of view: find → understand → act → follow up. It asks how language, localisation, platform processes and local risk affect practical access to protection.
The research scope and local delivery model are being validated. We do not describe prospective contributors as partners until they have agreed.
